“Making it through the Scanlon Creek's On and Off ice Program is a success in itself”
Dan Kerluke, Maine black bears, Associate Head Coach.
On Ice Training
Our on-ice practices feature drills and training techniques that have been developed through research and our international experience. Players are encouraged to work at the highest intensity to create a competitive environment every time they step out on the ice. Many drills are designed to be very difficult pushing players to work outside of their comfort zone. This type of training is challenging and rapidly increases skill development.
All aspects of skill development are covered during the practices, including power skating, shooting, passing, puck control, angling and basic team systems. Three practices per week are dedicated to specific skill development for forwards, defensemen and goaltenders.
Three games a week give players the opportunity to showcase their skills to us and any other scouts that attend the camp.
Off Ice Training
The off ice training at Scanlon Creek is not for the uncommitted. In a word, this is "tough". The off ice training consist of several Hockey Specific training techniques throughout any given week. The program is designed to help players loose body fat and increase weight by adding lean muscle mass. The specific strengths you need for on ice skills and basic conditioning will increase drastically.
Training Includes:
- Dry land (sprint training, plyometrics, agility, core, tire training, cardio run)
- Weight training (lower and upper body strength building / increase muscle mass )
- Yoga Class (increase flexibility and strength )
- Spin Class (condition and lower body strength )
- Shooting Lanes (improve shooting power and stick handling )
- Games and fun, i.e. soccer, basketball, football, dodge ball, volley ball, swimming
Dan Kerluke associate head coach Maine Black Bears
Dan is an annual guest here at Scanlon Creek Hockey, players will have the opportunity to be trained by Dan during on ice practices. He will also have a presentation about the difference between Major Junoir vs. College hockey and the recruitment process for the NCAA.
